I’m Gio, a quantitative ecologist and bioacoustician with a background in audio software engineering and a passion for learning from the wild sounds of the world.

I’m pursuing a PhD at the University of Washington’s College of the Environment, where my research focuses on monitoring the effects of environmental disturbances on both wildlife and human communities. I use autonomous acoustic recorders and machine learning techniques to detect wildlife vocalizations and anthropogenic activity and analyze relationships between resource management practices and biodiversity. See my projects and publications for more.

Outside of my research, I also make music with recordings I’ve collected in the field.
